What does Mama Production do?
Mama Production is an animation and live-action studio, mainly focused on gaming. We deal with projects from concept to realization. Sometimes clients need us to create content, sometimes we work according to existing instructions. We deliver ready-made commercials to clients that include sound and SFX, as well as custom formats.
What industry do you come from and what did you do there?
I majored in Production and had my first jobs in the organization of various events, after which I got my first job in film, where I worked for several years as a Production Assistant. After that, I started to form a family, which took me in a different direction because I couldn’t or didn’t want to work 15 hours a day and never see my children. I’m a mom after all, ha-ha!
After that, I worked as a Producer in a studio on projects related to post-production but there was also a lot of it related to live-action, which is, obviously, one of my favorite aspects of this job. 🙂
When did you first hear about gaming? How did you realize that maybe you could use your creativity there?
I entered the gaming industry completely by accident, without any plan – life took me on that path. It started with one client, another, a third… Our team of Animators and Designers also grew. I discovered that I like gaming very much because I have the freedom to express my creativity, which doesn’t really happen on commercial projects and in studio advertisements. In gaming, but also in digital itself, it’s great that clients are willing to produce and test a lot of different content and ideas. In our team, we often joke: “Hey, we’re having a great time, and someone else is paying us!” 😀 My favorite part of this job is coming up with ideas.
What experiences and skills you gained before could you use in gaming?
I have transferred almost all the skills that are important in this job: organization and distribution of work, communication, multitasking, assessment of the scope of work and deadlines… Psychology above all – how to treat which client, how to treat which artist.
However, there is one interesting segment. I had to unlearn a lot of things so that I could obtain new knowledge and open myself to new experiences. The work process is completely different, faster, more dynamic, shorter and cheaper.
What kind of projects are you working on now?
We’re currently working on a big project that I’m not allowed to talk about yet. It is a live-action project that is now in editing and post-production. When it’s all done, I’ll brag about it! 🙂
Is the gaming industry what you expected? What surprised you the most?
I didn’t expect anything, nor did I plan to enter the industry. It was difficult for me, and it is still difficult to understand the global nature of the market and audience. Simply, when I realize that we work for clients whose games have over 50 or 100 million players, I feel bad, ha-ha!
